Brief Description: Sandy Point State Park has some of the best views of the middle Chesapeake Bay from Maryland's western shore. The 786 acre park provides a variety of recreational opportunities such as swimming, fishing, crabbing, boating, and windsurfing. The park's location on the eastern flyway also makes it a popular location to view woodland, marsh, and migratory waterfowl. Visit Sandy Point's beaches and picnic areas and look out at the Bay Bridge, linking the western shore with Kent Island, as well as the many ships and boats plying the estuary.
Location / Directions: Sandy Point State Park is located in Anne Arundel County at the western terminus of the Bay Bridge off of U.S. Routes 50/301.

From Washington, D.C.: Follow Route 50 East to exit 32 for Sandy Point State Park.

From Baltimore: Follow I-695 to exit 4 for Route 97 South toward Annapolis. Exit off of Route 97 at Route 50 East. Take exit 32 to Sandy Point State Park—just prior to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

From the Eastern Shore: Follow Route 301 South to Route 50 West. Cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to exit 32 for Sandy Point State Park.

Activities: Sandy Point’s marina facility offers 22 launching ramps and a concession that sells bait, tackle, fuel, and fishing licenses. The park also rents rowboats and motorboats.

The park provides lifeguards on its beaches from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and there’s a food concession adjacent to the park’s South Beach. There are 12 picnic shelters for group rentals.

Sandy Point also features several hiking trails and a playground.

The park supports youth group camping year-round. Call the park office to reserve a campsite.

Operating Hours: From April to October, the park is open from 6:00am to sunset. From May to October, park officials enable active boating and fishing 24 hours a day.

From October to April, the hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Fees: An entry fee is charged year-round, although the amount varies depending upon season and day of the week. Check the website below for detailed information. Senior citizens (age 62 and older) and children in car seats are free.
