Friends of Chesapeake Gateways Launch New Weekend Planner
Chesapeake Trips and Tips Opens New Window on Watershed-wide Activities

Annapolis, MD (09/24/09) - The Friends of Chesapeake Gateways (Friends) launched its first issue of Chesapeake Trips and Tips, a free weekend planner delivered via email. Trips and Tips offers the public an easy way to discover special events and programs at Gateways sites in the Chesapeake watershed. The public can subscribe at the Friends of Chesapeake Gateways website: www.friendsofchesapeakegateways.org.

Each week, Trips and Tips provides readers with a suggested itinerary for the weekend and a preview of the following weekend’s events. “With over 160 Gateways sites offering recreational, cultural, and educational activities and events, there is a way for everyone to experience the Chesapeake,” said Scott Beatty, chairman of the board of the Friends of Chesapeake Gateways. “We’re excited that this weekend planner will introduce the public to the many and varied Gateway sites.”

The Friends of Chesapeake Gateways is a nonprofit organization that partners with the National Park Service to support the Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network. The Friends, a new and vital participant in this system, provides assistance and resources to the special places that comprise the Gateways Network.

The Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network is a partnership system of national, state, and local parks, wildlife refuges, museums, historic communities, and water trails throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Each of the 166 Gateways tells a different part of the Bay story, and together as the Network, provides a way for visitors and residents to experience and understand the Chesapeake as a whole—a key step in conserving the Bay.
