Maritime Moments: Capt. Rickover at the North Pole

Captain Hyman G. Rickoverís introduction of nuclear propulsion enabled the United States to build a fleet of nuclear submarines. In 1958, the first nuclear powered submarine, the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), crossed under the North Pole, proving to the world the submarines could travel almost anywhere. Come find out more about this historical event.
