CANCELLED 1st Annual Choptank River Sojourn

Friday October 3 - Sunday October 5

Three-Day Sojourn on the Most Scenic Tidal River on Marylandís Eastern Shore-the Great Choptank.

A pickup boat will be available for paddlers who prefer a leisurely pace and a late afternoon ride to the evening destination.Bag lunch provided for Day 1 and Day 3 segments of the Sojourn. Lunch will be catered at the Kingston Landing lunch stop on Day 2. Catered dinner will be provided at the Day 1 and Day 2 camping locations. Catered breakfast will be provided at the camping locations on the morning of the Day 2 and Day 3 segments. Paddlers can indicate on the registration form their preference for vegetarian meals. Evening entertainment will be provided

Tentative Itinerary Start on Day 1 -- Friday -- at Sailwinds Park in Cambridge, Maryland. Sailwinds Park features a sandy waterfront and soft landing adjacent to the Cambridge and Dorchester County Visitors Center. Outfitters will be present at the launch site to provide paddlecraft & equipment rentals and food. Journey 10 miles upriver to the historic steamboat and cannery town of Choptank in rural Caroline County. Prepared dinner and camping at Choptank. Day 2 -- Saturday -- The Sojourn continues from Choptank upriver past historic steamboat landings, a ghost town, and the landmark Dover Bridge. Lunch will be catered at Kingston Landing. The dinner and camping destination is Ganeys Wharf. Nearby historic sites at Gilpin Point and the mouth of the Tuckahoe River can be explored in the afternoon and evening. Day 3 -- Sunday -- The final leg fo the Sojourn runs from Ganeys Wharf on the upper Choptank past historic Two Johns and Potters Landing to finish at the newly reconstructed Joppa Steamboat Wharf at Old Harford Town Maritime Center in West Denton. Participants can sign up for the entire 3-day Sojourn, or for any of the daily segments. Sunday night camping can be reserved at Martinak State Park by arrangement with the Sojourn Staff.
