Almost 400 years of history, plus river lore, flora, fauna and more greet you in this four-hour circuit hike along both the north and south sides of RichmondĘs waterfront! Hiking the Floodwall, you'll discuss Byrd's Mills, the Manchester Commons and industrial development along the once more-prosperous city of Manchester. After crossing Mayo's Bridge to Richmond's north side Floodwall, you can examine the Canal Walk and current development before continuing along the riverside discussing Richmond's rail history, the flour mills and hydroelectric plants en route to BrownĘs Island. After learning more about the plans for Brown's Island, take the footbridge to Belle Isle for a brief look at this islandĘs impact on river lore before finishing up by exploring the new trail connector. This route involves some rock scrambling and a short walk along the Manchester Wall ledge.
