Families welcome! The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where birds are across the continent and in Hawaii. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. At Pickering Creek we will participate in this event by hiking through several different habitats and counting the birds we see along the way. Then we will submit the results to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. We’ll make peanut butter covered pine cones to take home for the birds in your yard. Binoculars and field guides provided, or bring your own.
