The National Park Service (NPS), Chesapeake Bay Office (CHBA) is accepting project proposals from Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Trail partners for financial assistance awards. Public access site development projects that advance the development of designated Gateways water trails, the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail (CAJO), and/or the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail (STSP) are the funding priority for fiscal year 2013.

Who May Apply: Applicants for NPS CHBA financial assistance awards must be either a non-profit organization (qualified as such under section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code) or a state or local government. For Federal sites, only non-Federal partner organizations may apply.

Award Amount: The minimum request is $10,000. The maximum request is $125,000. The requested funds must be matched by an equal (1:1) or greater amount of non-Federal support dedicated to the proposed project.

Application Deadline: Project Applications must be submitted via eMail to NPS CHBA by 4:00pm on Friday, March 1, 2013. Potential project applicants must review and carefully consider:

Project Consultation: You are strongly encouraged to contact NPS CHBA staff to discuss your project in advance of submitting an application. Two conference calls have been scheduled on Tuesday, February 5th from 10:30am – noon and Thursday, February 7th from 2:30 – 4:00pm to address your questions. Award Process: NPS CHBA financial assistance awards are predicated on the availability of Congressional appropriations. All applications will be vetted and prioritized; and subject to the availability of funding financial assistance awards negotiations should commence in March 2013. Applicants must be willing and able to produce detailed project implementation and contractual documents as directed by NPS on short turn-around to successfully secure fiscal year 2013 award funding. The projected start date for projects is September 1, 2013. All highly competitive proposals, even if not prioritized for immediate funding, will remain under consideration by NPS CHBA for funding as future appropriations allow.
