Brief Description: The Chesapeake Bay Center, located at First Landing State Park (a Gateway site), serves as a regional information center for distributing information about other sites in the Gateways Network. In addition to providing visitor information, the Center also functions as an interpretive and educational center for the park. It includes exhibits on the landing of the first permanent English settlers in 1607, a Chesapeake Bay aquarium exhibit, a Bay store, and a facility for equipment rentals and ecotourism opportunities.
Location / Directions: From I-64, take Northampton Blvd./U.S. 13 North (Exit 282). Go through eight lights, then turn right at the Shore Drive/U.S. 60 exit (last exit before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel). Take a right on Shore Drive and go four and a half miles to the park entrance.

Educational Programs

Operating Hours: Open daily, 9:00 to 5:00, except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day
Fees: Parking fee: $4 per car weekdays, $5 weekends;
Visitor Facilities: The Center is located in First Landing State Park. The Center provides visitor information services, interpretive exhibits, a Bay store, equipment rentals, and a Bay Lab operated by the Virginia Marine Science Museum.
Accessibility: Handicapped accessible exhibit area, offices and restrooms. There are also handicapped accessible showers. All areas are accessed via paved sidewalks from the parking lot and passages in between.
