Brief Description: Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge sits on the Potomac River, a major tributary to the Chesapeake Bay. The refuge includes a one-mile wildlife drive and over three miles of hiking trails along grasslands, tidal marshes and the river's edge. Over 650 species of plants and 200 species of birds have been observed at the refuge, which is one of the largest open areas remaining in northern Virginia. Waterfowl, deer, red fox and raptors are also abundant and can easily be observed from the trails. A Visitor Contact Station is open on weekends.

Location / Directions: From the South: Take I-95 to the Woodbridge Exit. Turn right onto Gordon Boulevard/SR 123. Travel 1.5 miles and turn right onto Jefferson Davis Highway/US 1 South. Get into the left lane and prepare to turn left at the next light. At the traffic light, turn onto Dawson Beach Road. Proceed to the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge entrance gate.

From the North: Take I-95 to exit 161. Turn left onto Gordon Boulevard/SR 123. Travel 1.5 miles and turn right onto Jefferson Davis Highway/US 1 South. Get into the left lane and prepare to turn left at the next light. At the traffic light, turn onto Dawson Beach Road. Proceed to the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge entrance gate.
