Brief Description: Located on the upper Choptank River at the Town of Denton, the Wharves at Choptank Crossing showcases the bygone experience of life along the Eastern Shore's rivers and working waterfronts. The “Wharves” site connects both the east and west sides of the Choptank, encompassing over two thousand feet of riverfront.

On the river's west side, the Joppa Steamboat Wharf, includes a new visitor center and maritime transportation museum. Three historic Chesapeake Bay Skipjacks are based at the site along with several historic buildings and the close-by Town of Denton Historic District. Both sides of the river also serve as access sites for the Choptank & Tuckahoe Rivers Water Trail, providing over 80 miles of river boating routes to historic port towns, fisheries, villages and natural areas.

Location / Directions: Take Maryland Route 404 from either US Route 13 (from the east) or US Route 50 (from the west). Continue on 404 (until just east of the Route 404 Bypass Bridge over the Choptank River) and take MD Route 328 (at the traffic signal) south (towards Easton). Then make the first left onto River Landing Road (West Denton sign). River Landing Road is a loop road off Route 328 that runs along the Choptank River. Follow River Landing Road for approx. one mile to the Joppa Steamboat Wharf on the riverfront, just downriver of the Route 404 Business Bridge over the Choptank (you will drive under this bridge).
