John Smith Trail Expeditions & John Smith's Shallop, Making the Gateways Connection

This grant will support two initiatives of Sultana Projects, Inc. One component will launch a new educational program for the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. Utilizing a fleet of canoes and kayaks, the trail expeditions will take groups of students, teachers, as well as the general public, out for single and multi-day educational trips on portions of the John Smith Trail. In the second component, Sultana Projects will partner with the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, Maryland to host a seven-month exhibit of the John Smith Shallop to help visitors better understand the historical context and impact of Smith’s 1608 voyages while highlighting the new Trail.
