Bay History

The Chesapeake Bay Region came about through millions of years of change, with natural forces and, eventually, human activities both playing major roles in creating the diverse aquatic and land-based environments we see in the Bay ecosystem. Today's Bay faces challenges on several fronts, from the need to restore and protect natural systems and habitats to accommodating the requirements of an ever-burgeoning human population.
