Nature & Heritage of the Pocomoke River

Delmarva Low-Impact Tourism Experiences (DLITE), in partnership with Wor-Wic Community College, will develop an interpreter training program focused on the heritage of the Pocomoke River. Local Gateways and heritage scholars will be consulted in the development of content that will include Native American history, African-American history, colonial history, natural history, industry, culture, stewardship, and Captain John Smith’s voyages of exploration along the river. The 20-hour course will be offered two times to volunteer docents and interpreters and will improve the interpretation programs of Gateways, heritage partners and stewardship organizations along the Pocomoke River and the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail (CAJO) and throughout the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland.
