Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Interpretive Plan

block Sailwinds Visitor Center

This grant will support the development of an interpretive plan focusing on sites and stories for interpretation in and near the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and the nearby Harriet Tubman State Park in southern Dorchester County. With a landscape much as it was in the 19th century the natural resource characteristics of the Chesapeake Bay, including Dorchester’s many miles of waterways, are important elements in the stories to be told of Tubman and the Underground Railroad’s “ordinary people who did extraordinary things.”

Amount Funded: $30,000.00

Start Date: 08/01/2008
