Before the Lees: 17th Century Environmental and Cultural History at Stratford Hall

block Stratford Hall Plantation

Stratford Hall will broaden its interpretation by creating new wayside exhibits which focus on the colonial environment of the Stratford site and on the early European inhabitants who occupied the area. These waysides will allow us to place new emphasis on the Chesapeake Bay and its ecology during the early days of European settlement of the region, as well as how colonists interacted with this environment to carve out lives for themselves in Virginia; archaeological investigations into the site will also be highlighted.

Amount Funded: $21,550.00

Start Date: 05/27/2008
