First Grade Education Project Partnership
The Watermen’s Museum, in partnership with the CBGN site the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, and Northern Neck Together, will create a First Grade Education Project Partnership to create four distinct products: 1) An age-appropriate, professionally authored and designed activity book (approx. 16 pages 8.5 x 11) for six-year old children (first graders) that highlights the stories of the Watermen and the connection between the health of the Chesapeake Bay/tributaries and seafood harvesting; 2) teacher guidance documents that will maximize the effectiveness of a field-trip to the Watermen’s (WM) and/or Reedville Fishermen’s Museum (RFM). 3) a workshop for museum volunteers and appropriate staff regarding childhood development and how to best present information and educate six year old children, and 4) “exhibit characters”; i.e. “Oscar the Oyster, Mary the Menhaden, and Charlie the Crab”- race neutral “personalities” that will be developed with the purpose of maximizing the capacity of existing exhibits in both the WM and the RFM to better engage a target audience of young children.
