Gateway to Agriculture: Farm to Bay

block Pickering Creek Audubon Center

Visited by every school child on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, this project will develop and pilot a new Chesapeake agriculture Ambassador program for high school students along with a series of Chesapeake Bay agriculture education lessons. The Ambassador program will instruct high school students how to teach and mentor other students in middle and elementary schools about agriculture and the Chesapeake. The agriculture lessons component will be based on the food/farm/Bay connection and all lessons will meet State and Federal education standards. Special emphasis will be placed on the importance of farming in the Chesapeake Bay landscape, conservation based farming techniques and the personal choices participants can make as consumers to help preserve and protect the Chesapeake Bay.

Amount Funded: $18,615.00

Start Date: 08/25/2006
