Urban Gateway for Avian Migration
Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine
This project partners the National Aquarium with Fort McHenry National Monument, the Friends of Fort McHenry and the Baltimore Bird Club. The project expands public access into the restored wetlands built as part of the Harbor Tunnel mitigation by Fort McHenry. Students, volunteers and the public will engage in habitat restoration with a focus on the revitalized bird migration trends or just come to see species that may have not been seen for years. The project includes development of monthly, guided bird walks; school field trips; habitat enhancement; and, an interpretive brochure comparing migration trends, changes in environmental factors and how they relate to our everyday actions.
