James River Water Trail - Lower
Captain John Smith's Adventures on the James River is a water trail and driving tour interpreting John Smith's exploration of the James from 1607 to 1609. This water trail overlaps with the Lower James River Water Trail and encompasses 15 Chesapeake Bay Gateway Network (CBGN) sites. The project will enable the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) in partnership with the James River Association (JRA) and others to place interpretive signage at 15 sites along the trail as well as locating directional signage at 33 sites to improve accessibility for visitors and tourists.
