Interpretive Planning Program for Adkins Arboretum
Many changes are occurring throughout the site including a new entrance way, visitor center and roads. The Arboretum has become a conservation model illustrating the best in Bay-friendly stewardship. This 25-year-old arboretum will now integrate the most effective and measurable messaging of Bay stewardship stories through a comprehensive interpretive planning program. The project will involve the public and volunteers, staff and consultants by a series of visitor surveys, program evaluations, workshops and program testing. Visitor experience, education and interpretation goals will be fully integrated into the new visitor center, arboretum grounds and outreach programs. All who visit will benefit through a consistent and comprehensive story about the region’s native landscapes, its link to the health of the Chesapeake Bay and the value of Bay conservation.
