Backyard to the Bay

block Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park

The C&O; Canal National Historical Park follows the 184.5-mile path of a 19th century canal that moved commercial goods and natural resources between the Chesapeake region and the mountains of Western Maryland. This project will create the first-ever exhibit at the park directly exploring the relationship of the canal, as well as the Potomac River that runs alongside it, with the broader Chesapeake Bay watershed. Located at the Lockhouse 8 River Center just outside of Washington, D.C., the exhibit will trace the impact of human influences on the natural environment from John Smith's day in the early 17th century to the residential development of modern times. Special emphasis will be placed on the things visitors can do in their own backyards to help boost the health of the Bay and its rivers.

Amount Funded: $56,160.00

Start Date: 09/15/2005
