Sultana and the Colonial Chesapeake

block Schooner Sultana

One of two mobile Gateways, the Schooner Sultana is a reconstructed vessel built to an authentic 18th-century design and based out of Chestertown on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Educational sails and dockside tours offer students and the public a one-of-a-kind experience of Chesapeake maritime history. The new printed materials supported in this grant and an interactive website will help Sultana visitors gain a closer look at daily life aboard such vessels during the 1700s and a broader perspective on the role these sailing ships played in the broader Chesapeake economy of the time.

Amount Funded: $15,100.00

Start Date: 09/15/2005
