The Herring Highway

block Rock Creek Park

Washington, D.C.'s popular linear park along Rock Creek will create a series of 10 public wayside panels and develop a new educational curriculum to tell the story of the creek's historic role on the "Herring Highway," a natural migration route between the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers. The panels will also describe modern-day efforts to bolster herring populations in the Chesapeake region. The high-school level curriculum, which will meet federal and state standards of learning, will include opportunities for students to gather field data to help gauge the success of those efforts.

Amount Funded: $20,000.00

Start Date: 09/15/2005
