Water Trail Stewardship, Interpretation, Access & "Gateways as Classrooms" Improvements

block Rappahannock River Water Trail

This project will boost safe public access to this developing water trail near Fredericksburg and enrich the interpretive experience it offers to visitors. New printed maps and new on-site orientation signage will be developed, extending the trail all the way to the river's mouth at the Chesapeake Bay. New guided tours of the trail will introduce paddlers to the stories of a region rich in uniquely Chesapeake heritage. The grant also supports stewardship programs designed to conduct restoration work and develop low-impact campsites for overnight paddlers.

Amount Funded: $130,825.00

Start Date: 09/15/2005
