Occoquan Water Trail Map, Signage and Management Plan
Occoquan Water Trail
The Occoquan Water Trail identifies a previously undesignated route, connecting a primary and a secondary tributary of the Chesapeake Bay and linking five existing Gateways on its route. The project will facilitate access, provide a place-based interpretive experience, and promote resource stewardship, achieving three basic goals of the Network: facilitating access, interpreting themes common to the Bay and stimulating public involvement and interest in resource stewardship. Specifically, this project will result in a map and guide, orientation signage and a management strategy built through a community-based stakeholders group with a conservation-based goal of watershed protection. This will guide long-term care, special event planning and oversight of the trail. These final products will help people explore, enjoy and better understand local and regional watershed resources and their role in the Chesapeake Bay story.
