Secrets of the Mermaid's Purse: Skates and Rays
Calvert Marine Museum
Skates and Rays will be an interactive exhibit interpreting important but unrecognized Bay species. A series of panel displays, audio/visual presentations, custom artwork will depict the many kinds of skates and rays that live in local waters. The exhibit will feature a touch tank providing a simulated Chesapeake Bay; through this tank, visitors will be able to reach in and touch skates and rays under the supervision of a touch tank interpreter. Interpreters will work with visitors to teach them about skates and rays, their "real" local habitats (the Chesapeake and Patuxent), and how visitors to these waterways can help to create a safe environment for these and other living creatures.
