Underground Railroad Interpretive Program

block Underground Railroad Scenic Byway

Dorchester and Caroline Counties will work together as partners in developing the first active interpretive program for the Underground Railroad Scenic Byway. The route, which links a series of sites associated with the Underground Railroad in each county, currently has few interpretive materials for visitors. This project will develop a map and guide for the route and a series of interpretive panels at key sites. Together, these products will help visitors along the route understand the close connection between Chesapeake Bay waterways and landscapes and the efforts of enslaved peoples to escape to freedom.

Amount Funded: $30,000.00

Start Date: 08/15/2003
