Grants Awarded - Craffords Mill Interpretive Area

Craffords Mill Interpretive Area

block Chippokes Plantation State Park

This grant will establish the Crafford’s Mill Interpretive Area at the site of an eighteenth century mill in the park. During the American Revolution the mill was fortified by local militia and a brief skirmish took place in June of 1781 following the battle of Greensprings. The remains of the mill are limited to portions of the old milldam and cart road that used the mill’s causeway as a bridge. Chippokes State Park will clear the cart road as a new walking trail, clear underbrush from the old mill site and develop some interpretive panels on the site's history.

Amount Funded: $5,000.00

Start Date: 08/15/2003
