Festival Beach Access Point Enhancements

block Mathews Blueways Water Trails

This project is designed to improve access to the Mathews Blueways Trail by enhancing a particular access point at Festival Beach. Mathews County will expand parking at the site, enhance tidal wetlands as part of a replacement project, supplement sand for the canoe and kayak launch area along the shoreline, and develop two wayside exhibits. The wetlands constructed for the project will be designed to intercept stormwater and filter it before it drains to the Bay. Dune grasses will be planted over 9,200 square feet of beach, stabilizing it, and enhancing long-term habitat for the endangered Northeastern beach tiger beetle.

Amount Funded: $45,060.00

Start Date: 08/15/2003
