Riparian Bayscapes - Community Demonstration Landscapes

block Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers Water Trail

The Mattaponi & Pamunkey Rivers Association will coordinate a major demonstration landscaping project at public access points along the York River Water Trail. Each of nine access points, including three Gateway sites, will be the focus of planting and landscaping work to add riparian vegetation and reduce surface runoff into rivers and streams. Partner organizations will conduct workshops to train community members who will actually design and implement the project. All told, some 20 acres of land will be restored and planted with large trees, shrubs and other vegetation. Interpretive panels will be installed at each access point to explain the plants and their functions.

Amount Funded: $75,513.00

Start Date: 08/15/2003
