| - Solomons, MD |
|
| Founded in a small waterman's shack in 1925, the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory is the oldest state-supported marine laboratory on the East Coast and has been the stage for numerous landmark discoveries that now serve as a foundation for many environmental practices currently used to preserve and protect the Chesapeake Bay. The Laboratory's mission has been two-fold: promoting excellence in marine research and graduate education while sharing the results of ongoing exploration with the larger scientific community and citizens of Maryland. Located at the mouth of the Patuxent River on Solomons Island, it is one of three laboratories of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.
