| Mason Neck State Park sits on a peninsula jutting out into the Potomac River, a major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. The peninsula is the site of an active heron rookery and also attracts many other migrating and resident bird species, including whistling swans and assorted ducks. Bald eagles also inhabit the area. The park boasts hundreds of acres of hardwood forests and several wetland areas. It is immediately adjacent to another Chesapeake Bay Gateway, Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Visit the park and the nearby refuge to enjoy this scenic spot on the Potomac River. |
