These projects are intended to enhance the public's ability to learn and enjoy the Bay’s stories and significance, explore its natural and cultural resources, and become involved in Bay stewardship. Through these projects and other Gateways Network efforts more and more people recognize the Chesapeake as a true national treasure.

| Connecting Communities to the Chesapeake Through Public Involvement in Tidal Wetland Restoration |
|
Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and the National Aquarium will partner to engage the community in wetland restoration while fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the Chesapeake Bay. The Aquarium will work with the refuge to carry out a 1.5 acre community-based wetland restoration. In addition to direct environmental improvements, by involving volunteers in the process of wetland restoration, the importance of the Chesapeake Bay can be demonstrated directly to a large number of volunteers.

| Interpretive Graphics for Waterfront Park |
|
A Waterfront Park celebrating the Chesapeake Bay Watershed will offer Inner Harbor visitors a gateway to the Chesapeake by telling stories of the Bay’s magic and its conservation challenges while addressing the role every individual can play in preserving the Bay. The Park is part of a redevelopment of Pier 3 that includes a ten-story building featuring a waterfall, visible from the Park, reminiscent of those found in Western Maryland. The free and fully accessible Park will transform a concrete area into a “Slice of Maryland,” that simulates the 3 major watershed habitat zones. Interpretive graphics in each habitat will introduce conservation concepts and strategies. A granite Watershed map inlaid in the plaza will provide a context and location for staffed interpretation and educational activities. An audioscape of wildlife sounds will increase the natural ambience of the experience.
