| Interesting Facts: | The hydraulic patent-tong rig is extremely efficient. Compared to manually-operated “drop” tongs, hydraulic gear reportedly enabled a waterman to harvest twice as many oysters in the same amount of time. By the early 1960s virtually all oystermen had adopted the hydraulic rig. |
