Drum Point
Year Built:1883
Description:Drum PointOriginally located at a shoal on the north side of the entrance to the Patuxent River. Automated 1960. Deactivated 1962. Relocated to Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons Island in 1975. Owned and maintained by the museum. Light is listed on National Register of Historic Places.
Type of Structure:White hexagonal cottage on cast-iron screwpile structure.
Purpose:Built to guide vessels into the Patuxent River
Interesting Facts:When lighthouse was moved from original location to the Calvert Marine Museum the 10 inch solid iron pilings were cut, and the 41 ton light was placed on a barge and floated up the Patuxent River to the museum.
