Gateway Commitments

Designated Gateways help foster development of the Gateways Network and support Network Goals by:

  • promoting and interpreting conservation and stewardship of Bay-related resources
  • providing interpretive materials, exhibits, or programs introducing visitors to Bay overarching and principal themes; and interpreting the resources and stories associated with the Gateway in the context of Chesapeake Bay themes
  • participating in physical or programmatic linkages with other existing or potential Gateways in the Network that are geographically or thematically related
  • providing appropriate public access to Bay-related natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources, in accordance with sound resource management considerations and the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • displaying and maintaining the Gateways Network logo and signage in a prominent location at the Gateway and/or key access points
  • incorporating the Gateways Network logo and design guidelines in new publications produced with Network assistance
  • providing information on the Gateways resources and themes for inclusion in the Gateways Network web site

Designated Gateways enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Park Service outlining mutual commitments to foster cohesive development of the Gateways Network.
